The Wine The Wine
Australia
Region:Victoria - Mornington Peninsula
When most people think of Australia, they picture sunny beaches, warm weather, and classic BBQs. But tucked away in Victoria is the Mornington Peninsula, a rising star in the world of cool-climate wines. Ten Minutes by Tractor is at the forefront, showcasing the region's exceptional wines, which highlight the finesse and elegance that cooler climates can bring to the table. By focusing on single vineyard expression within their wines, they can capture the true nuances that this region has to offer. This single vineyard McCutcheon Pinot Noir is hand-picked and carefully handled in the winery to produce a symphony of rose petals, sweet rhubarb, spiced sumac, bramble and autumnal characters in the glass.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Martin Spedding
Once the CEO of a tech company, Martin Spedding is now at the helm of an acclaimed Mornington Peninsula winery and is championing Australia's cool-climate wines. In his late 30s, Martin realised the corporate life was no longer for him, so he quit his job in Sydney to follow his passion for wine. He spent two years searching Australia and New Zealand for the right place to grow his favourite varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and ended up in Victoria's beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Here he produces elegant, award-winning wines from top-quality vineyards - all ten minutes apart by tractor. After a long hunt for the perfect place to make his dream wines, Martin eventually discovered three incredible vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula. They were run by three families who had come together to form Ten Minutes by Tractor in 1997 - so named because it took about that long to get from one vineyard to the other on a tractor.
"This is a classic McCutcheon Pinot with elegant red fruits and a finely detailed structure. There is an ever-changing range of secondary and fruit characters that evolve beautifully in the glass, given time. It is a complex wine that is alluring, light on its feet and leads a merry dance right to the end." - Martin Spedding, Winemaker.
