France
Region:Burgundy - Vosne-Romanée
Benjamin Leroux's version of Vosne Romanée stays true to the region's reputation for class and elegance, but with modern touches. He's a "less is more" kind of guy when it comes to winemaking, using gentle techniques in the cellar, allowing the grapes to shine on their own. Post fermentation this wine is aged for 18 months in traditional 330L barrels of which no more than 25% is new and, true to his ethos, this is precise, with a focus on freshness and vibrancy with aromas of dark cherries, raspberries, and hints of rose petals. When you taste, expect a silky texture with flavours that dance between fruit, earthy notes like truffle or forest floor, and a bit of spice. A complex red that is just starting to come into top-form.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Benjamin Leroux
Benjamin Leroux has an impressive background in winemaking, having worked at Domaine Comte Armand before starting his own label in 2007. He is celebrated for his meticulous approach, emphasizing organic and biodynamic practices, low intervention in the cellar, and allowing the terroir to speak through his wines. His wines consistently exhibit elegance, purity, and finesse, making him a star in modern Burgundy winemaking.
"I whole-bunch ferment around 60% of the grapes for this cuvée followed by a 15-day maceration in tank where I allow natural ambient yeast fermentation to take place. Ageing follows in 300L barrels for 18 months, 20 to 25% of which is new, before we bottle the wine un-fined and unfiltered. I'm really pleased with the results here and it is a wine that is just starting to open up but can be kept for up to a decade." - Benjamin Leroux, Winemaker.
