  • This wonderful red brings together two blockbuster Australian grape varieties: inky Durif and black-fruit-laden Shiraz.
  • Durif makes up the lion’s share of the blend with its smooth berry fruit, perfectly offset by the classic blackcurrant notes of Shiraz.
  • The vineyards this wine hails from are renowned by the Liebich family for their ideal conditions for growing Durif.

The Wine

Country of origin:

Australia

Region:

South Australia

We’ve been looking for a top quality (but great value) source of Durif from Australia for several vintages. In 2023 we unearthed a fantastic grower who had seriously good quality Durif and some excess fruit that we could put our mark on. Inkpot was the result of this partnership, and the wonderful Andréa Maxwell turned that fruit into a ridiculously good bottle of wine. It's a robust red that makes a great accompaniment to roast beef with all the trimmings, or try with a roasted vegetable lasagne for something a tad less trad.

The Winemaker

Andrea Maxell
Winemaker:

Andréa Maxwell

Andréa grew up in South Africa and completed her degree in Viticulture & Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch. Her love for wine developed early, starting a wine course while still in school. After two vintages in South Africa, she moved to Australia and has been ingrained in the industry since. In her spare time, she enjoys walking with her partner and their gorgeous English Cocker Spaniel, Darcy, through their own Shiraz vineyard in the heart of McLaren Vale.

If you talk about wine, it doesn’t matter what language you speak. It will intrinsically connect you to people.

"The fruit on the nose is open and bright with ripe plum and enticing liquorice notes, followed by a palate of dense, concentrated and chewy blue and black fruit with a little salted caramel on the finish." - Andréa Maxwell, Winemaker.
