The Wine

Country of origin:

South Africa

Region:

Coastal Region

After the success of producing a straight Grenache in 2022, we wanted to take things up a notch and the naturally low-yielding 2023 vintage gave us the chance to add some black-fruit-packed Syrah and a dash of meaty Mourvèdre into the mix. This blackberry and cherry fruit-filled Cape red is a wine with wide-ranging appeal. It's a great wine to open for a dinner party or family gathering and a safe bet to make an occasion out of a moment. The blend is based on a majority of Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre completing the trio. Mighty Mourvèdre lends that extra bit of structure for pairing with everyday dishes, or to raise the roof for a Sunday roast.

South Africa's winemaking regions fan out from the beautiful city of Cape Town, dominated by Table Mountain. Often, a blanket of wispy-edged white cloud tumbles down, almost like a waterfall. This unusual phenomenon mirrors the rich diversity of climates that makes Cape wine so fascinatingly varied.

"We leave the wine on the skins for 20-30 days, depending on the variety, to soak out all the good tannins, flavour and structure before being pressed and I love the results. A wine with great fruit concentration, balance and finesse." - Pieter Carstens, Winemaker.
