Our Iziza range has been a work in progress for a few vintages now, working with winemakers and growers to single out specific plots within vineyards that deliver the most exceptional fruit. This pure Chenin Blanc focuses on two locations in the super trendy Swartland region. A small 4,000-litre single cuvée was used as the base, a tropical fruity style, very fresh with a bright and crunchy lemon peel finish, which accounted for 80% of the blend. The final 20% came from a wonderful plot of vines in Hartebeesvlei, a creamier style with lemon barley notes, great depth, a touch of natural sweetness, with layers of stone fruit. Alone it was too much, but when paired with other parcel they forged a very strong partnership.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Alecia Boshoff
Alecia started her career as assistant winemaker after completing her BSc (Agric) Viticulture and Oenology degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 2002. She gained valuable international winemaking skills during harvests in Australia, France and the USA, before returning to South Africa. Her passion for Swartland (she is a born-and-bred Swartlander) can be seen in her dedication to the terrior and wines from this region.
