The Wine

Country of origin:

South Africa

Region:

Franschhoek

What a delight this wine is! Sourced from ancient vines, it boasts superb flavour. The nose is vibrant and focused, offering green notes, citrus, and mineral hints. The palate captivates with a robust initial taste that transitions seamlessly to a stunning, flinty finish. JD, our partner winemaker, recognized the grapes' exceptional quality and chose to age part of the wine in Stockinger barrels, known as the Stradivarius of oak. This wine exudes energy and promises longevity, with potential for further improvement over time.

You really need to focus on the small stuff in the vineyards through to the bottle because if you slip up on any part, the wine won't be any good. For me, wine is made in the vineyards and I'm just there to guide it into the bottle with limited intervention, keeping it pure and not fake.

"This wine comes from vines which have an average age of more than one hundred years. Think about that! Some of these vines started producing grapes just after the end of the second Boer War. This is what makes the wine so special, the intensity that is associated with vine age." - JD Rossouw, Winemaker.
