The Wine The Wine
England
Region:Surrey
Since 2010 Litmus has been at the forefront of premium English winemaking, producing a small range of wines that highlight the fantastic potential of cool climate viticulture. This orange wine is testament to their winning formula - and for those of you who aren't familiar with orange wine, it is a traditional winemaking method where white grapes are fermented and aged on their skins. This gives them a little more body and nuttiness than regular white wines. Litmus Orange is produced from 100% hand-harvested Bacchus grapes, grown in Dorking, which were then fermented and remained for six weeks on the skins without sulphur dioxide. The result is a complex wine with aromas of pink grapefruit, honeysuckle, peach, ginger, hazelnut and fennel. These bold flavours pair really well with flavoursome foods: ranging Moroccan tagines, Korean Bibimbap to stir fried pork.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
John Worontschak
John has been making English wine since 1988. In 2010 he decided to create the first Litmus wine, Element 20. The concept was to move away from the traditional fruity and often one-dimensional English wine styles and create something a lot more complex and age-worthy.
"This pale amber wine displays hazelnut, fennel and marzipan characters on the nose. The palate has a touch of vanilla and ginger spice, is incredibly generous and complex and boasts a long broad palate with a gripping astringency and smooth, long finish." - John Worontschak, Winemaker.
