The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Burgundy - Beaujolais
This is the top cuvée from one of Beaujolais's - if not the world's - most legendary producers whose approach to organic viticulture and non-intrusive winemaking has inspired producers the world over to adopt a more natural and sustainable approach to the whole process. Founded in 1909 by Winemaker Mathieu Lapierre’s grandfather, but it was Mathieu's father Marcel who built the reputation the Domaine enjoys today. A pure Gamay, crafted from fruit grown on 100-year-old vines on the Côte du Py near Fleurie, delivering a wine with notes of cherry, liquorish and violets.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Mathieu Lapierre
The approach of this stunning Beaujolais producer focusses on purity and respect for the land and the elements. They have a simple philosophy, that the more they respect the soil and grapes, the more their unique, poor quality granitic soils can be expressed in the wines, and they can keep the winemaking unintrusive and natural, like it would have been many years ago.
"A very special bottling that we produce from a couple of plots of vines that are some of our oldest at an average of 100 years or more. The depth and concentration always wows us and this vintage is one of the best we've produced." - Mathieu Lapierre, Winemaker.
