The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Rhône - Châteauneuf-du-Pape
This is an absolute belter of a red from the immaculately kept vineyards of the Gonnet estate in the heart of the Rhône's Châteauneuf-du-Pape region. It brings together two of the region's stalwart varieties in equal measures - Grenache and Syrah - and once the fermentation has finished the blend is allowed to relax and settle in a mixture of concrete, old large oak and stainless steel vessels before being brought together and bottled. The resulting wine is densely fruited with notes of black cherries and blackberries, with an exceptionally long, balanced and complex finish.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Guillaume Gonnet
Guillaume Gonnet is a 3rd generation winemaker who took ownership if the family estate in Châteauneuf back in 2006. Prior to this he gained invaluable experience working at some of the world's finest wineries, covering renowned regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy and Napa to name a few! He now runs the estate with his wife Kelly and produces a range if terroir driven wines that capture the unique climate this prestigious part of France's Rhône Valley.
"A blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah from some of our oldest plots of vines that naturally delivery low crops of highly concentrated fruit. I love the purity of the black fruit character, gentle notes of fresh herbs and just a touch of classic savoury spice that is unmistakable of great Châteauneuf." - Guillaume Gonnet, Winemaker.
