The Wine The Wine
Greece
Region:Macedonia
The grapes are sourced from the viticultural zone of Agios Panteleimon within the Amyndeon appellation in Macedonia. The high altitude (600m) and the poor sandy soils of the area lead to the production of wines displaying finesse and a rare aromatic character. The Xinomavro vines are over 60 years old and produce low yields of exceptional fruit. The grapes are hand-picked and after fermentation the wine is transferred into oak barrels where it is left to mature for 14 months, and once bottled it is given another year before release. Good things come to those who wait.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Stellios Boutaris
Stellios Boutaris is a fifth generation winemaker and has run the Kir-Yianni family winery since 2002. His greatest ambition is to bring Greek wine to a global audience, highlighting the unique character of the indigenous Greek varieties, such as Xinomavro and Assyrtiko. He has managed to make Kir-Yianni one of Greece's most respected wine brands, with a philosophy centred around the desire for innovation, respect for tradition and true knowledge of the wine, from grape to bottle.
"Ruby with bronze hues, a colour typical for the Xinomavro sourced from Amyndeon. Intense aromas of wild strawberry and cherry entwine with fine herbal hints, while on the palate the pronounced freshness balanced with the ample body, offering a wine with great elegance." - Stellios Boutaris, Winemaker.
