The Wine

Country of origin:

South Africa

Region:

Swartland

Swartland is red-hot in terms of hype, and is home to many of the Cape's most exciting winemakers. We include Ryno Booysen in this elite group, and the Grenache Blanc grapes which he uses for this wine come from the hot and extremely dry conditions of this region to the west of the Cape. The lack of water in Swartland leads to smaller yields of more-concentrated fruit - which is why this region specialises in making rich, fruit-driven wines.

The Winemaker

Winemaker:

Ryno Booysen

The wine must express where it comes from, you must be able to taste the soil, the quality of the grapes and lastly, hopefully, something from me as the winemaker - you will end up with a wine destined for greatness.

"We harvest the fruit in the early hours of the morning in order to retain freshness in the grapes. Once we have them back at the winery they are pressed, and the juice is put into temperature controlled steel tanks where we allow fermentation to occur naturally from the native yeasts (rather than adding in anything ourselves)." - Ryno Booysen, Winemaker.
