The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Rhône - Beaumes de Venise
Beaume de Venise is a warm terroir, where the Grenache grape thrives and develops wonderfully ripe and heady red fruit and peppery spice. That is why it makes up the dominant part of this wine, blended with a smaller proportion of Syrah to add some dark berry fruit and tannic structure. Winemaker Thierry Faravel ages half of the wine in old oak barrels, the other half in concrete tanks to preserve the juicy fruit and to obtain silky tannins. This is a superb wine to decant and savour - but if you want to pair this with food, Thierry recommends serving this alongside wild meats like boar or venison.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Thierry Faravel
60 years ago, Antonin Faravel planted his first vines directly above the Dentelles de Montmirail, at a place called Grande Bouïssière. Thierry Faravel is his youngest son, who at the age of 26 took over the Domaine when his father passed away. Since then he has honed his skills as a superb winemaker, and his older brother Gilles looks after the vines.
"In the most sunny terroir of the estate, Grenache is the perfect accomplice to produce a gourmet and suave wine, with charm hardly comparable on the nose or on the palate. Charm that comes from a pure expression of the fruit, without falling into the candied character that such a terroir could easily give." - Thierry Faravel, Winemaker.
