The Wine The Wine
Argentina
Region:Mendoza - Uco Valley
Tupungato, Mendoza has become a hotbed of viticultural excitement. It is home to some of the country's highest vineyards and takes its name from the immense volcano that provides the backdrop to this stunning region. Where there's excitement in wine in Argentina the Zuccardi family won't be far from the action. They have some prize vineyard sites planted on wonderful calcareous soils perfect for producing mineral fresh Chardonnay. A white made with Burgundy in mind where a balance of orchard fruit, mineral freshness and supple oak work together. Pair with creamy chicken or white fish dishes.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Sebastián Zuccardi
Sebastián Zuccardi, a third-generation winemaker, is recognised globally as one of Argentina's top producers. A graduate in Agricultural Engineering from the National University of Cuyo, Sebastián refined his winemaking philosophy through experiences in wine regions across the United States, France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal. His approach centres on achieving identity through terroir and, as his understanding of the vineyards deepened, he realised that excessive oak was masking the grapes' natural character. Today, he prioritises the fruit's freshness and purity, continuing the legacy of his grandfather, Alberto 'Tito' Zuccardi, and father, José Zuccardi.
"I love the notes of white fruits, especially pears and white peaches well integrated with the aromas of spices, white flowers and toast. There's a mineral and fruity roundness with excellent development in the mouth. I use oak very sparingly to preserve fruit but to add a little volume. The finish is long and lingering." - Winemaker, Sebastian Zuccardi.
