The Wine The Wine
New Zealand
Region:Waipara
This Pinot Noir is bright and soft, with red fruit tones on the nose that lead to some richer strawberry and plum on the palate, which builds dramatically in the mouth. The wine has an elegant structure and balance, supported by good fruit and oak tannins. Magical, aromatic and silky smooth - this is world-class Pinot for early drinking. Perfect with grilled spring lamb cutlets or why not try a glass of slightly chilled Stratum in the sunshine - fingers crossed that one is an option!
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Petter Evans
In 1978 Dayne and Jill Sherwood planted 8 acres of vines in West Melton, west of Christchurch. It was a time of turmoil in the industry with the government paying people to pull vines out. Some people thought they were mad... but by putting their heart and soul into every aspect of every bottle of wine made over the last 40 years, they have earned the enviable reputation of creating formidable wines with absolute reliability. Along with their Chief Winemaker, Petter Evans, who is a veteran of the wine industry (he has been working in vineyards since the age of 15!) they are determined to live up to this reputation for another 40 years.
"The Stratum Pinot Noir was produced from selected parcels of grapes grown in the Waipara Valley. This vintage displays rich berry fruit aromas supported by a hint of oak. The palate is beautifully textured, rich and balanced with a rounded finish." - Petter Evans, Winemaker.
