Albariño is a grape variety gaining more and more attention from winemakers around the world and it's no surprise that winemaker and master of aromatic whites has had a go. The winemaker in question is none other than Dr. John Forrest, who set up his family estate in Marlborough, New Zealand in 1988, releasing his first wines into the market two years later. A varietal Albariño from a vineyard site in the Brancott Valley, which is one of the warmest in Marlborough, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and fully.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Dr. John Forrest
Making wine is a very personal endeavour, yet one winemakers love to share. For me, winemaking combines my exuberant personality and scientist's love of experimentation with a continuous quest to capture the best the land, the vines and the vintage have to offer. The result is a collection of wines with great integrity and purity of flavour, which clearly reflect their sense of place. I am proud to share these wines with you.
"We're always looking to add to our already impressive range of varieties and we decided 5 years ago to plant a little plot of Albariño. After months of research, we decided to plant in our warmest site at the southern end of the valley. The results have been a pleasant surprise and we see this variety as an important part of the future." - Dr John Forrest, Winemaker.
