The Wine The Wine
Italy
Region:Piedmont
Let's start with the hard facts - Marchesi di Gresy is a stunning property that makes befittingly stunning wines. Located in a bowl surrounded by its prized south/southwest-facing Martinenga vineyards, di Gresy screams quality and elegance. The mastery of the Nebbiolo grape here is evident in their wines that confidently rival the cream of Burgundy. Bold flavours on a powerful palate but delivered with poise and elegance. And with carefully extracted colour, tannin and its natural acidity, these wines will age and improve for decades. If, of course, you have the discipline to not dip in early!
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Alberto di Gresy
Alberto di Gresy, who took over the estate in the 70s from his grandfather Carlo, is largely responsible for today's success having turned it from just a grower and supplier of quality grapes, to an estate-bottling producer. The estate has never looked back and is genuinely one of the best producers in what is an already very prestigious wine region.
"Martinenga is the pride of Marchesi di Gresy, surrounding the estate like an amphitheatre. The south/southwest-facing vineyards provide sublime Nebbiolo with complex red fruit and spicy aromatics with amazing potential for ageing." - Alberto di Gresy, Winemaker.
