The Wine The Wine
Portugal
Region:Douro Valley
A single-quinta Port from the property of Terra Feita, one of the most highly regarded for quality in the Taylor's portfolio. It has always produced robust wines that develop excellent complexity over time with notes of tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, mint, chocolate and liquorice. Can drink on release to enjoy some of the primary cherry fruit, but age for decades to bring out leathery aromas.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
David Guimaraens
David Guimaraens is the 6th generation of the founder of Fonseca Guimaraens. At 18, he set out to experience winemaking in Australia, California and Oregon. David formalised his education in Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. After graduating and working, he returned to Portugal in 1990 to join the Fonseca winemaking team. He has been instrumental in producing the Fonseca and Taylor Fladgate wines since, now serving as a Director of Taylor Fladgate and Fonseca.
"Deep purple black colour with magenta highlights. Classic black fruit aromas of cherry and cassis provide a dense and impenetrable backdrop for wild scents of mint, resin and gum cistus. On the palate the same intense black fruit character merges with rich dark flavours of and liquorice and chocolate. The tannins are muscular but well integrated and the wine finishes with an explosion of berry fruit and spice." - David Guimaraens, Winemaker.
