The Wine

Country of origin:

Germany

Region:

Pfalz

This 100% Pinot Noir represents unrivalled value for quality-focused German Spätburgunder. Cool nights but long, warm days in the Rhine Valley allow this summer-fruits red to retain all of its freshness but develop intensity and complexity to its red fruit flavour profile. It's the best of both worlds. Its concentration of fruit could lead you to believe it's twice the price, but its gentle and elegant style makes it a very drinkable drink. With a price to allow for that too!

The Winemaker

Bernhard Schug
Winemaker:

Bernhard Schug

Bernhard started making wine with his friend Ernst Loosen in the late 1980s. He is passionate about his winemaking as well as his own personal garden at home. His years of experience have taken him through all types of vintages in Germany, and drawing on this experience he can help direct the work in the vineyard or the method of fermentation and/or aging to create consistently great wines that are showpieces for the varietals they represent.

"Lenné Pinot Noir is warm and medium-bodied, with a firm acid structure. Its dark cherry fruit is juicy, ripe and forward, with a spicy mid-palate. Several months of barrique aging gives the wine a smoky depth and a nice touch of earthy tannins. This is a very grown-up Pinot Noir for the price and it is an ideal match for roasted lamb, smoked salmon and feathered game, like quail or pheasant." - Bernhard Schug, Winemaker.
