La Grande Dame is Veuve Clicquot's prestige, flagship Champagne. Pinot Noir forms the core of this blend, picked from only the best Grand Cru vineyards. As Madame Clicquot used to say 200 years ago, “Our black grapes give the finest white wines”, an affirmation that still rings true. Beloved for its versatility, the Pinot Noir grape expresses itself differently according to its growing conditions and the year in which it is harvested. When it comes to food and wine pairing, La Grande Dame excels when paired with garden cuisine where seasonal vegetables take centre stage.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Didier Mariotti
Didier Mariotti is the 11th Cellar Master at Veuve Clicquot, where he took over from Dominic Demarville in January 2020. He has a long history in Champagne, as be began his career at Nicholas Feuillatte before moving to Mumm where he worked for 13 years. He is now tasked with preserving Veuve Clicquot's expertise and inimitable style, protecting its treasure trove of reserve wines and cellars, and laying the path for the future of Veuve Clicquot by designing and creating iconic cuvées with its emblematic signature grape variety: Pinot Noir.
"Held up to the light, La Grande Dame 2015 reveals a beautiful, golden robe that sparkles brightly. This solar vintage, while elegant and precise, offers fresh minerality with light floral notes of jasmine and acacia on the nose, which evolve into fruity notes of pear and clementine. As for the first sip, it envelops the palate with a delightfully subtle, silky texture." - Didier Mariotti, Winemaker.
