The Wine

Country of origin:

France

Region:

Champagne

Some might claim that the Special Cuvee is the quintessential expression of the Bollinger style. Some might claim this to be pretentious guff. Either way, what you get here is one hell of a mouthful of wonderful full-bodied Champers with a beautiful balance of rich fruit, yeasty creaminess and nutty maturity.

The Winemaker

Denis-Bunner
Winemaker:

Denis Bunner

Originally from Alsace, Denis Bunner has always had a passion for Champagne and joined Maison Bollinger as Assistant Cellar Master in 2013. Today, after taking over the cellar from his friend and mentor Gilles Descôtes, he is the chief winemaker. Denis is tasked with the mission to maintain the outstanding quality of Maison Bollinger while driving innovation. He says that one of his most memorable moments was being able to taste a magnum of Bollinger Vintage 1905, and when he’s not living and breathing Champagne, you can find him on his mountain bike enjoying the outdoors.

"Special Cuvée is composed of over 85% Grand and Premier crus of the 3 main Champagne varieties: 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. There is a beautiful aromatic complexity of ripe fruit and spicy aromas with hints of roasted apples, compote and peaches. In the mouth, there is a subtle combination of structure, length and vivacity. Bubbles like velvet, with pear, brioche and spicy notes, as well as notes of fresh walnut." - Denis Bunner, Winemaker.
