The Wine The Wine
France
Region:Languedoc
This wine is a labour of love; the collaborative result of the friendship between Gavin Crisfield and myself (Andrew Baker, Wine Buyer at Virgin Wines). We went to wine school together in 1996 and have shared a taste for good wine ever since. From the outset, this wine resisted coming into being - from nightmarish French bureaucracy and an impossible search for a premises, to irksome wild boar (they love grapes) and swarming bees. This wine has kept us busy. It is lavishly fruited and approachable, but deep, rich and swathed in very fine oak.
The Winemaker The Winemaker
Gavin Crisfield and Andrew Baker
Gavin Crisfield trained as a sommelier before training at Plumpton College, East Sussex, is now a winemaker and was general manager of Domaine de la Sauvageonne in the Languedoc before making his own wine for the first time in 2009 from grapes grown in cool vineyards close to St Jean de la Blaquière.
"Introducing a labour-of-love project between two fellow wine romantics: me, Andrew Baker, and Gavin Crisfield. Although our relationship has been tested from battling French bureaucracy to fighting off wild boars - this amazing wine is the end result, our lovechild, and totally worth it in every way." - Andrew Baker, Wine Buyer and Co-Winemaker.
