The Wine

Country of origin:

Germany

Region:

Mosel

The Losen-Bockstanz Estate is a family affair and has been since the 16th century. Production of this stunning wine is just 500 dozen so this is a rare chance to taste one of Germany's finest offerings. This wine is a belter and although you can get stuck in right away, there's potential to age this wine for a decade or more. Balance always key, especially with German Riesling. There's a lovely richness from residual sugar that is kept in check by magnificent acidity.

The Winemaker

Thomas Losen
Winemaker:

Thomas Losen

The Losen-Bockstanz estate is situated in the town of Wittlich in Mosel and has been producing wine since the 16th century. The estate is family owned and managed by Thomas Losen. Thomas uses the most modern cellar techniques to produce fine, elegant wines. Thomas Losen's philosophy is straightforward. Allow the interplay of nature - the soil, the climate and the terroir - to work together to produce healthy vines. A rich, organic soil provides the nourishment while a slate bedrock allows drainage without depriving the plants of the moisture they need. Not surprisingly, insecticides and artificial chemicals are all totally banned.

"There is a fantastic richness to this wine and a great balance between the sweetness of the residual sugar and the kick of the acidity"
